The tempo trainer will make any average swimmer realize how off rhythm one is. Initially, this thing is an annoying reminder of one's deficiencies. Within a few days, one would learn that the trainer is one's best ally in establishing and maintaining the rhythm that suits one's goals. Whether it is a fast frequency for sprints or a slow beat for long distance, the trainer will be a very helpful addition. Slightly expensive, but a good long term investment.

Tempo trainer works well to improve swimmer's timing Due to its small size, it is easy to lose (not Finis's fault!)

I purchased the Temp trainer to use for a small squad I train hence I only used it on swimmers who would benefitthe most. I need it again now but I cannot find out how to change the batteries. I rang my supplier and they did not know either. So in summary, it is a great product for the life of the battery, then it appears Ineed to buy anew one.

We use tempo timers in some capacity in every workout. Our athletes know all their expected paces if we have them swim at their 500 pace, 100 pace, or max. We use them to kick as well; our kicking has improved significantly since. We spend a great deal of time working underwater and the tempo timer works well with underwater kicking.

convenient and durable; it has allowed me to significantly influence the pace and effectiveness of many of my athletes. The only downside would be dependency on them to sustain a certain tempo.

I'm new to swimming and started using this TTP to hone in on a better stroke rate. I'm now incorporating it into workout using my critical swim speed. I can easily hear the beeps with ear plugs in and I've had no issues with its performance or leaking. I'm a satisfied customer.

Knowing how to swim with proper rhythm, how to move on a consistent cadence, and how to adjust your stroke rate up or down are all critical to swimming your best, and the Tempo Trainer Pro is the best tool I have found on the market to learn those skills. And beyond those, the TTP has various other abilities and applications as well, such as helping to track your speed, while swimming, in a novel and simple way that makes holding (or building) pace much easier. For anyone interested in learning the various ways to use them, there are a wide variety of posts and articles available from different coaches and authors about the TT's and ways to use them. A search on Google should give you plenty. One thing I have noticed is that all or almost all of what is out there discusses matching the beep to the hand entry when swimming free or back. I feel this places too much attention on the arms and takes it away from the body/hip/core rotation, which is where the power and stability should come from in these strokes. I therefore instruct my swimmers to look to match the beep to their hip rotation (whichever hip is moving from higher to lower) instead. It accomplishes the same result with regard to stroke rate, but changes the focus to initiating the stroke at the core. Beyond a pair of goggles, it could be argued that a waterproof metronome is the most valuable piece of training equipment a swimmer could own. As an age group coach, a masters coach, and a competitive swimmer/triathlete myself, I use them constantly, and have witnessed so many athletes benefit from them. All of that said, the TTP is not perfect. As a coach, I have been involved in the use of dozens of these, and there are a couple shortcomings I have found with them: First, I and many of the swimmers I work with prefer not to wear a cap during practice, however the clip that comes with the TTP is clearly not meant to secure the unit to a goggle strap, as the water pressure (especially during pushoffs) will often dislodge the unit from its clip. Without the clip, the only option is to try putting it under your goggle strap, but I have not seen success there either. So, for now, I find the only consistent way to secure the TTP while swimming is with a cap. It would think it should be possible to design some form of clip that would be effective without need of a cap. Second, I have seen more than a few of them stop working and upon investigation, found that the metal contacts in the battery compartment were not tight enough and therefore, not maintaining constant contact with battery. Bending the contacts in toward where the battery goes has fixed this issue in most cases, though, so this is not a particularly big deal to me. In final analysis, these are not sufficient complaints to undermine the Tempo Trainer Pro's value, and as I do with my own swimmers, if you are serious about maximizing your results in the water, I strongly recommend using one.

ensure you buy a replacement battery beforehand as upon first use mine was completely dead (it flickered OFF and then went dead). Nothing like getting to the pool and having adead battery :-). Unfortunately I've read this is a common complaint and you'd think Finis would install one of those strips that you get on most toys.

The product is awesome in that it works as it is designed. However, once the battery dies, there is no way of swapping the battery. So you are in essence paying $40 and yet you are at the mercy of the battery. I almost wanted to demand that they add a MADE BY date on the packaging so you know how "new" your battery is. As far as price, $40 seems steep. All in all, good product.

The new tempo trainer is a great product that helps the swimmers with their tempo and pace. The beep gives them that instant feedback that most kids today need to learn or improve. Now that you can replace the battery in it makes it even better because now because it allows us to be able to use the product for a longer period of time.

I find the tempo trainer is an excellent tool for training swimmers. It helps them internalize their pacing. It lets us push them to a faster tempo during endurance training and select the optimum pace on race day.

Over the years, I have found the tempo trainer to be a highly effective teaching tool for our swimmers especially when it comes to learning pace and tempo control, both of which are important to manage for successful racing. We use tempo trainers day 1 of the season and carry it with our training through the final meets of the year. They are easy to use for both race pace training and for drills. Also easy to transport and the life span of the tempo trainer is equal to that of our athlete's college careers. Our students enjoy the color selection, too!

The original, and still the very best of the waterproof metronomes. When the Tempo Trainer first was introduced, I thought it was terrific, and found so many ways to utilize it to improve technique, speed, and overall swimming success. The added features of the Tempo Trainer Pro make it so valuable, I would sooner get rid of my kickboard than my TTP. I love the three different modes and what each enables me to do. I love the replaceable battery. And, I love that Finis has consistently proven to be a great company that stands behind its products. If you look around the internet, you'll find numerous elite-level coaches who consider Tempo Trainers to be an essential training item, and I agree completely. If you truly want to see your swimming improve, no matter what level you are currently at, if you don't have a Tempo Trainer Pro, you need to get one.

If you ever find that you have trouble with pacing, over both longer distances and shorter distances, then look no further than the FINIS tempo trainer. This nifty little gadget also allows you to work out what stroke rate works for you and it is small and easy enough to take just about anywhere with you!

Withuot this trainer, teaching some swimmers to pick up their stoke tempo is tough. The constant beeping reminds the athletes to keep up with the rhythm. In aone weeks trial will create good stoke speed. I also believe the concentration of this beep underwater helps the athlete to stay under longer and easier.

I use the TT Pro for swimming and running, and believe it one of the most important pieces of equipment I have. For swimming, it has helped me maintain a steady rhythm, and dps, especially when I fatigue. It is also invaluable in learning to even pace my swims, as it helps to remind me that an even paced swim often feels easier at the beginning. And on those days when I'm feeling esp good, a set "beep" gives me something to chase and try to beat. When running, I use it to maintain "fast feet", setting it to beep every 4 or 5 foot strikes at the desired tempo. It is easy to slow down your running rhythm when you get tired, but the tempo trainer doesn't lie!

he tempo trainer has been very valuable for the training of my distance freestylers. It has helped them maintain a steady pace. The tempo trainer also is great for those swimmers whose stroke tempo tends to be slow. I would recommend the tempo trainer for all ages of swimmers. I have found the tempo trainers to be a great value with huge benefits.

Great but....
Very useful device. The only ( serious!) problem for me is that the sound it makes is so annoying that I cannot take it for more than 10 minutes. Hopefully they can improve that in the next version.

Increase volumen for loss hearing persons
I have tried the tempotrainer and I find it very useful in my workouts, but I have a problem. I suffer from hearing loss, and out of the water I hear it very well, but in the water most of the time I lose it, I cannot hear it, I make the beep coincide with the breath (outside the water I hear it better) to follow the cadence. Would there be any possibility of increasing the volume?
Thank you.

Small tool, big difference.
The tempo trainer is a key tool in my training, allowing me to make each session race specific and purposeful. It helps me refine my stroke rate and rhythm to match competition conditions, ensuring I’m well prepared for race day. I incorporate it into my daily training routine to simulate race pace and monitor performance. Additionally, I use it for post race analysis to identify areas for improvement and make precise adjustments. The tempo trainer enables me to take ownership of my development and progress independently, without relying solely on a coach.
